Am I keeping too busy?
Carol and I are back at the Lodge, doing minor repairs and I for one am trying to craft my travel buzz. I notice that with long retirement days, I have an index of accomplishment that I keep referring to. When the index gets too low, my buzz definitely feels less buzzy. More on that in a minute; I am wordsmithing now and if I get too jumpy, the text might disappear forever.
Have you ever been in the Wind River Range in Wyoming? PFC. Earlier today we did a kick ass day hike up to Lake Louise whose waters eventually crash thru some tight gaps down into the Wind River and then into the Bighorn river and on to the Yellowstone. Speaking of, we've decided to stay out of Yellowstone and Teton parks, fearing crowds. Nevertheless, in a couple days we'll pull our home thru Jackson Wyoming and continue on, thru Pocatello and Boise.
About that index: I mean producing something or accomplishing something that maybe someone else can appreciate or use. I had my first session of Virtual Phone Banking yesterday, calling presumed democratic voters in Western Michigan in the Muskegon area, where I attended elementary school. I must have called 50 people, maybe more, and connected with just 5. Two hang-ups, one Trump voter, and 2 strong Biden supporters (hopefully I convinced the one wavering on the Senate race to vote for the democratic incumbent Gary Peters and not John James.) James is a far right libertarian leaning conservative; for someone participating in crafting laws he sounds just awful. Hope he loses and forgets about trying to legislate. Two years ago he tried to beat long time Michigan Democratic senator Debbie Stabenow, only losing by 6 points or so).
And here I am posting to the blog! I get points for that as well, so my index of accomplishment is trending up, and my buzz is on for the evening. I will be able to watch another episode of Homeland, pretty much guilt-free. I am just a few eps away from completing the last season (8). Scary stuff. Hope you are all well and that we can be with each other soon.
The following pictures are in reverse order. But you figured that out anyway. Actually they are not; we hadn't seen the lake yet when we marveled at the flow draining out of it.
If this keeps up and the skys stay blue, Lake Loise is no more. |

Digging the beard!
ReplyDeleteStronly considering trimming down, maybe to a soul patch. Reason? Covid, of course. My info has it that "surgical grade" single use masks are the safest and best for everyday protection for you and your contacts, with a good 2 or 3 layer fabric mask being a close second. Sorry to say that the FDA is not providing any guidance on which of those "blue" masks are surgical grade and which are possibly not safe at all. We're on our own. Beard probably not a factor in any case for those. However, for protecting YOU (and also others), it's N-95. I guess if what you buy says N-95 or KN-95 then it's probably good, although some conterfeights are out there. And those perform best with good seal against the skin, where a beard will degrade the protection. As it turns out, my objective is to live as long as possible, WITH social interaction. SO...beard might be not the best. I'm thinking for outings like shopping and walking between tables outside at restaurants, the first two are OK. If I fly or car pool or take the bus or train, maybe N-95 without beard best. Just trying to figure it out. I like the beard too. Will be sorry to see it go. But no current plans for taking public transportation, so might wait until shaving is needed.
